Taranaki won the Ranfurly Shield from Southland with a thrilling 15-12 win where a young Beauden Barrett slotted five penalties. It was 15 years since Taranaki had held the famous Log o’ Wood and they held it successfully seven times before Waikato claimed it in 2012. Lock Jason Eaton was named the player of the year for Taranaki.
