Taranaki Different and Better
Ensuring sport and recreation meets participants needs and delivers future-focused opportunities so Taranaki people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can enjoy participating in physical activity.
Taranaki Different and Better is a change management project. It is focused on ensuring that sport and recreation meets the needs of participants and delivers future-focused opportunities so that Taranaki people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can experience the joy of participating in physical activity.
The vision is for a future where:
The sector fosters a safe and inclusive environment for all to enjoy sport and recreation opportunities tailored to the needs and interests of participants.
Regional Sports Organisations and clubs deliver programmes that are accessible and affordable. There is a culture of respect, inclusion, and collaboration.
Decision makers take a locally led approach to create meaningful and sustainable opportunities.
To achieve this, the way sport and recreation is delivered must change. Taranaki people are not as active as they would like to be, and overall physical activity is declining.
Participants have many recreation opportunities but limited time and resources and the way we live and work is constantly changing. What worked in the past is unlikely to work in the future.
Taranaki Different and Better is an opportunity to work collectively for a better future. There are seven strands to the project and Sport Taranaki is underway working with Regional Sports Organisations, funders and other stakeholders to make positive change.
