Frank van Hattum was a goalkeeper during New Zealand's first World Cup finals tournament in 1982.  

His international career started in 1980, and he played a total of 41 times for his country including unofficial matches. He also had a distinguished career in football administration as the director and chairmain of New Zealand Football and the president of the organising committee for the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup held in New Zealand.

Frank's father, Frits van Hattum, is widely regarded as introducing football into schools in Taranaki and beyond during the 1960s and 1970s.
