Taranaki Sports Awards 2008 -  Overall Winner

Shane Reed was a quiet achiever on the world circuit. He was a three-time World Cup winner with no fewer than 35 top 10s at what was then the sport’s highest level and was a three-time World Aquathlon champion. He spent 15 years ranked inside the world’s top 25. A change to coach Brendan Downey inspired a career revival of sorts, with Beijing a major motivation in that continued drive to succeed at the top level. In Beijing he finished 34th after a selfless performance in the ‘domestique’ role, where he helped teammate Bevan Docherty claim bronze.
