Nominator Guidance

The Community Impact award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to sport or active recreation in Taranaki, with impact that extends beyond the playing field. This category celebrates people whose contribution has created meaningful change, improved opportunities, inspired others, or strengthened sport active recreation or play beyond what would normally be expected of a routine volunteer, official, coach, administrator or contributor.

There is no minimum or maximum period of service. Nominations will be assessed on the quality, significance, and impact of the contribution.

Eligibility

Nominations must:

  • Be for an individual who has contributed significantly to sport, active recreation and play in Taranaki.
  • Be endorsed by a Regional Sports Organisation, council, or other recognised body.
  • Be the only nomination submitted by that organisation for this category in 2026.
  • Demonstrate impact beyond normal or expected service.

What judges will look for

Nominations should show clear evidence of significant impact, such as:

  • Meaningful change for participants, clubs, codes, communities or the wider sector.
  • Contribution beyond a normal volunteer, coaching, official, committee or administrative role.
  • Leadership, influence or support that has created broader benefit.
  • Innovative, inclusive or collaborative approaches.
  • Improved access or participation, including reducing barriers or reaching new groups.
  • Benefits likely to continue beyond the nominee’s direct involvement.

Strong nominations should explain what the nominee did, who benefited, what changed, and whether the impact extended beyond one team, event, club or season.

  • There will be no overall winner but nominations must meet the judging panel’s threshold for significant impact to be accepted.

Judging panel

A panel of seven with diverse knowledge of Taranaki sport and recreation are responsible for judging the awards. The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
