After building an impressive record on the beach and in the surf from New Plymouth's East End Club George took to the basketball court in earnest and was selected for the New Zealand national side in 1985. During the same season, she topped the scoring in the women's national league and was named as the NZ Basketball Institute's Most Valuable Player in 1986. More honours and achievements followed before George turned her energies to the netball court, earning national youth honours in 1991 and selection in the Silver Ferns shortly after. Since finishing playing, she embarked on a successful and varied netball coaching career and is currently coaching and teaching netball in Queensland, Australia.
