Lets Go

Back to Schools

The Let’s Go Cycle and Scooter Skills Training are free programmes funded by the New Plymouth District Council to schools within the district

Let's Go Scooter Skills Course

This addressed to primary school students in the New Entrants to Year 4 classes.  It involves a one off 1.5 hour session /class and aims to increase the safety of children on scooters and other footpath users.

Let's Go Cycle Skills Training Programme

This programme is addressed to Year 5-Yr 8 students and involves 2 different Grades. We advise that the students do both Grades and will not be able to do Grade 2 without completing Grade 1.

Grade 1 - Full school day programme on the school grounds. The programme involves bike checks for safety, teaching students how to do road signals and ride safely.

Grade 2 - Full school day programme. Grade 2 is out in the quiet neighbouring streets and local walkways, putting the skills that they learnt in Grade 1 into practice.

Train the Trainers Workshop

A 2.5 hour professional development opportunity for teachers and volunteers delivered at the school, usually during a staff meeting evening.  Teachers and volunteers learn to deliver the Grade 1 of the cycle skills training themselves, using instruction and role-play with a team of trainers.  This programme offers free resources and training.

It is also possible for schools wanting to deliver the Grade 1 Training themselves in their own school to use the trailer and spare bikes when not in use by the trainers for other deliveries.

Available in the New Plymouth District only.
