The Halberg Trust funds Sport Taranaki's Sport Opportunity Advisor whose focus is to assist young people with a disability to participate in sport and active leisure.

The Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme started in June 2000 and is all about encouraging and enabling people with a disability to particpate with their peers in an inclusive environment as they develop within a sporting or recreational pathway.

The Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme assists in the following areas:

• Funding - providing grants to young people with a disability aged 19 years and under through the Halberg Trust Activity Fund.
• Schools - enabling children with a disability to have the same sporting, physical education and active leisure opportunities as their peers.
• Community - raising community awareness of inclusion to ensure that all people with a disability have a choice to be involved in community events.
• Clubs - providing training for coaches and administrators, assisting with policy development, the provision of adequate resources and appropriate equipment.
