Push Play Nation Campaign 2008
As one of 17 Regional Sports Trusts, Sport Taranaki is driving the Push Play Nation campaign in the Taranaki region. SPARC’s Push Play Nation campaign for 2008 started on the 1st October in a bid to get New Zealanders more active and to start valuing sport and recreation as an integral part of their day to day lives.
For 2008, the campaign is targeting people between the ages of 25-50. It is targeting people that want to be more active but feel that they lack the time and support to do so. These people tend to be motivated by being active with others. The message that SPARC’s Push Play Nation campaign wants to get across to the nation is that anyone can benefit from the “buzz” received from being active.

Sport Taranaki will be holding a Corporate Push Play Challenge at City Fitness on Friday 17th October from 9-4pm which is open for all organisations to challenge other workplaces around Taranaki at a low impact activity in a fun and safe environment. The challenge is to have someone from the organisation on one of the bikes at City Fitness cycling for half an hour at a time, at whatever speed they wish. There will be spot prizes given out throughout the day but the overall winning organisation will be that organisation which has covered the most kilometres in the time period. Sport Taranaki’s Health and Wellbeing Advisor, Jenny Gibson, says “It is going to be a great way for organisations to work together as a team to beat other organisations. People are encouraged to go at their own pace so it is possible for everyone to be involved.”
In 2007, Sport Taranaki developed a Push Play Activity Record Card so participants can monitor how much activity they do throughout October. Says Jenny, “By changing our focus last year we found that we were able to encourage individuals on a month long personal challenge which enables positive lifestyle habits to form, habits that see being active become a priority in their life”.
