Active Schools Toolkit Workshops
The Active Schools toolkit has been designed to help schools meet new legislative requirements regarding physical activity. These requirements came into force from 1 January 2006 and are outlined in the National Education Goals and the National Administration Guidelines. (Please note: Active Schools is NOT a contract)
The toolkit aims to help schools develop a physical activity culture by:
-
Offering ideas for providing physical activity contexts and activity-based learning across the curriculum areas
-
Providing easy ways to increase physical activity in co-curriculum areas
-
Helping physical activity to become a part of daily life in the school community
The toolkit comprises of the following:
Get Ready
a handbook for principles, management teams and Board of Trustees on introducing a physical activity culture to your schools. |
| |
Get Started
a handbook to help teachers to increase physical activity in the classroom. |
| |
Get Going
a set of curriculum-based activity cards that teachers can use straight away. |
| |
Get into it
an interactive CD-Rom with information and resources for teachers and students, and an audio CD to accompnay physical activity. |
As time progresses more resources will be added to the toolkit to provide teachers with a comprehensive guide and resources on "how to" become an Active School. However, don't be mistaken, the toolkit is NOT a physical education resource, it is about physical activity becoming and everyday, integral part of school life!
Workshop Format
Toolkit workshops are generally run as after-school inservices for the whole staff. They are approximately 2.5 hours. Smaller schools may be asked to join a cluster group.
If you are not one of the schools involved in the Ministry of Education contract and you would like to participate in an Active Schools Workshop all you need to do is download the registration form and fax it back to Sport Taranaki on 06 759 1779.
